Hi guys,

I'm looking at a CV-1C on CL. My online research indicates it's the same body size as the F40, but I can't find any info on the dimensions of that body size. Can someone tell me:
Upper bout width
Lower bout width
Depth at neck and tail

Thanks,
Vin

I've had CV-1Cs and a CV-2C, as well as an F-47. Still have the CV-2C BTW, which is a fabulous guitar.
The main difference between the CV bodies and F-4Xs is in the depth: the CV has a max depth of about 4 3/8" , while the F-40/47 is about 4 3/4 - 4 7/8". Bout widths are virtually the same. The neck shapes are different, as are the nut widths: CV nut - 1 3/4, F-4X - 1 11/16".

The F-40 is a shallow body- 3 3/4 at the neck end, 4 1/4 at the tailblock. The F-47 is deeper ( I think- don't have one here to measure)
lower bout 15 7/8, upper is 11 1/4

Stand corrected on the F-40 depth. How do you like your GSR?

I love it. In particular the body shape and size- and the tone and volume I get from that. It is big enough to compete with most anything in volume, is very comfortable to play with the shallow body and narrow waist, Tone has come along really well as it ages a bit and gets played. The neck is very nice. I am not (yet) loving full time on 1 11/16 but I know it is the way to go and as I clean up my left hand work it gets better and better. I abandoned wider string spacing as too much real estate for flatpicking and it has taken me 6 months to get things going well on the narrower set up. I play mandolin too so it's not really narrow, it's just getting used to it.
I put away my Gibson j-185 for the last several months and concentrated on the gsr-f40. It has paid off.

jg, sounds like you got yourself a good'n. I do also like the body type quite a bit and find that it almost fits like a glove.

For some reason, I find that i can deal with the 1 11/16" nut Guilds most of the time, though on my DV-4 I did have the nut replaced with one with slightly wider string-spacing. In fact, i may like the neck on that thing better than my CV, as i can wrap my thumb easier.

Good luck with it.
