So a special run for GC. How many were made? Anyone??
According to Guild's notoriously inaccurate dating chart, the D26 was only made in 1995, and the serial range is AD260001 to AD260458. Mine was AD260384. Assuming that's accurate, the total run was 457.

I think they were only made in 1995, and there aren't a lot of them. I wouldn't mind having this one back.
Just using your post to summarize, 'cause I thought I did but must have "oopsied".

What made a D26 a D26 was:

Light 'hog stain instead of the dark burgundy color used on D25NT's of the time, the gold hardware, and the "reversed" white binding.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Those are the only 3 details I remember Hans ever citing (assuming it's accurate, but I'm 99and44/100% certain it is on this one).;)

I don't think there's any stain at all, and they used some nice(r) wood for the top and sides. I always thought it was more like an archback D40 minus the Chesterfield. I'd buy another given the opportunity and keep it. I swapped the gold Grovers out on mine.

Yeah I've seen that stain referred to as "natural" but don't think Guild actually used that term for it, or don't remember. Yes a gorgeous golden glow, thought it was lightly tinted but may not be at all.

Also seen on the '97 ('98?) M20's and IIRC even a D15? or D17?

Funny you should mention that and in regard to the braces thing (and I suspect you might remember this but for the benefit of new members...), the D40 was on hiatus at the time, its slot being filled by the DV-6 which did have shaved braces. When the (original) DV-6 went away we saw the ephemeral DV-25 in the '99 catalog, spec'd with standard bracing.
https://www.gad.net/Blog/2010/07/28/guild-gallery-catalog-1999-july-december/

When the D40 returned however, it was shown with shaved bracing in that same catalog (and a rare short-lived snakehead headstock until Corona).

Point being we only ever see scalloped bracing in the higher-end builds like DV52, D55, F47, etc. And interesting counterpoint, at one point they also said they didn't scallop jumbo (F50, JF30) tops because they were too big:

Thanks for listening. :geek:
