Hey there...me again...

I have what could be another goofy question...

There is a 1992 D-50 and a 2002 D-50 within driving distance of me...

And since I've been hanging out with you people...I figure one Guild could not possibly enough...

Would there be any real difference in these two??...I mean other than the obvious 10 years...

Thanks,
Rudy

I've owned Guilds made in every location since the company started. They've all been great instruments.

The D-50 is probably my favorite Guild model of all. Give these D-50's a test drive if you can. If not, be sure there's an iron clad return guarantee.

Hey Rudy,
With a setup like that, you must be prepared for equally goofy answers!

But seriously, as far as the D50 'dilemma' you're facing, the obvious solution would be to buy them both and sort them out later. :?:
On the other hand, if you're able to lay your hands/fingers on both, I'd pay 'em both a visit and go with your heart. Choosing a guitar based solely on the year of manufacture would leave you wondering about the value of your decision. The key is the 'test drive' and how you feel about the ride.

There are so many factors that come into play when you do an A/B:
condition, sound, feel, etc., etc. But it all ends up with you, so go get 'em! :D

Stay in tune,
Joe

The '92 is a Westerly-built D-50... but I don't know if the 2002 would be Westerly or Corona, or really what changes were made in the ten years between these two model dates.

I believe the Tacoma-made D-50s and those made at the current factory in New Hartford have scalloped braces, while older Westerly D-50s did not (my '76 appears to have shaved braces, but I am still not sure this is how it came from the factory). I think I recall Hans mentioning at one point that scalloped braces appeared on D-50s in the '90s, but I don't know when (and the thread is too old to search).

My advice would be to play them both, and pick the one that sounds/feels right to you.

Good hunting,
Dave

Mich; '92 will be a Westerly and '02 will be a very early Corona. I have a Corona D40 and it's absolutely the equal of my two Westerlys, in fact the finish quality is better than the Westerlys in my opinion. There have been some observations here about Corona finish problems, occurring later in production if I remember, but you might want to pay extra attention to there.
