Not so sure how rare and collectable it is, it's made in Korea.

Tom

When it was announced and released, it was sold as a limited edition of 70.

It is maple which is comparatively rare in the 21st Century Starfire basses and it is the only 21st Century Starfire bass, so far, with a sunburst finish.

For some bassists a maple, sunburst Starfire is a grail and vintage ones are harder to find than mahogany, cherry.

"rare and collectable" is always a judgement call but if you want a maple sunburst this is available right now and for $500-$1000 less than the recent vintage sales I have noticed.

I guess if you're looking for a rare and collectable Korean bass (not my words but sellers) here you go.

You pointed out the country of origin, not any place in the ad that I can find. The conversation here when it came out was focused on the sunburst, not the country of origin, and the scarcity of vintage sunburst Starfires. When an object is numbered and sold as #20 of 70 the manufacturer is clearly appealing to a collectable market whether the object is collectable or not.

Interesting to see the case candy, already with Oxnard's address, the guitar left Korea (2nd July 2014) after the New Hartford factory was closed.

I had the chance to get one but wanted to wait for a non artist mapleburst which never happened. Now I am sticking to solid bodies from now on after owning my FMIC NS Cherry Starfire. If it wasn’t a signature model, I think the non-collecteur price for this used one mentioned by the op isn’t a nickel over $750.

Love Hillman, the Byrds and 'burst finishes but am not a fan of instruments emblazoned with musician and/or band names.

Les Paul would be the one exception, since his name has become synonymous with those guitars: all of them. And...well...he was freakin' Les Paul.

I just think it’s a beautiful bass. Since I have a sunburst ‘68 Starfire II I’m not interested in it, especially as it’s priced high, but I can still admire it.
