From another list:
"The Guild F-50R originally had a no brace back. I believe that Dave
VanRonk's gtr was this style. They had several models of maple, rswd and
mahogany flat top guitars with this style of back, and it varied through the
years. They also used this style on most of their hollow body electrics. It
was a pressed laminate and worked very well."
Can anybody confirm or refute this? I thought the F-50R had flat back and braces from the beginning.

In fact, Guild DID experiment with an F-50R with a laminated rosewood back... discussed some time ago here on LTG. Someone here has one... the guitar is nicknamed Cap'n, but I can't remember who has it... Chazmo, maybe?

Edit: It is Chazmo, and it's "Cap." Here are the threads...

Of course, the maple F-50 does have a laminated back (as do others... F-40, G-37/D-30/G-45, etc).

The only acoustics with laminated arched mahogany backs I know of are dreads... initially the D-25, and then all it's various progeny.
