I've read here and elsewhere that Guild is going to offer a new F212XL jumbo 12 string. Their website shows no information on this model. Does anyone have an update?

I would direct you to follow the attached thread.

Short answer: It is in the works at Guild along with several other guitars in the new Standard Series. They should be introduced later this year.

P.S. Welcome to LTG

Hey, steam. Yeah, that was me over on UMGF. Glad to see you over here; welcome back!

And just to echo what Ridgy just said, yeah you won't see anything about the Standard Series anywhere yet (including the Guild web site) because it hasn't been announced yet. Those of us who attended the Let's Meet Guild 2010 event in April got the first sneak peek at these guitars; it was really something. Yup, the F-212XL Standard was seen/played by me and others.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I haven't had the opportunity to own a Guild acoustic yet, but I'm not a stranger to Guild; I own a Starfire IV that I bought new about 10 years ago as a better alternative to the Gibson ES335. I look forward to seeing the new standard series models.

No Guild acoustics? Well then, my friend, you have not lived!

No Guild acoustics? If you stick around here for awhile, we'll take care of that!

Hiya Steamer,

Since I've responded to your queries on AGF and UMGF you know where I'm coming from.

I can only add that of all the forums I have ever seen, this nuthouse is the best.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks, guys. I have two good friends who play Guilds. Both are early 70 models, one jumbo 6 and one dread, but I'm embarrassed that I don't know the model numbers. They both sound great, but the dread has a very round baseball bat neck, and the jumbo needs a neck reset, so I haven't got a good idea how a Guild with a friendlier neck would play. The neck on my Starfire IV is much easier to play than any ES335 I tried, so I'm hoping to try a newer Guild acoustic to get a better idea.

When I bought my X175 in the early '80s, at the same shop was a mid-'60s Gibson ES175 that was about $800 IIRC compared to the $400 that I ended up paying for the X175. I liked the neck on the X175 much better and being that it was half the price of the Gibson it was the one I bought.

In retrospect, it might have been smarter to buy the Gibson...

Sandy, you mean "smarter" from an investment/resale point of view?

Exactly Chaz. That ES175 might be worth something to the order of 10X what mine is worth now. Think of all the Guilds I could buy with that money!

Yes, but think of the 20+ years you would have had to play the Gi*&son instead of your Guild, would it be worth the wait to get a Guild?

Well, you do have a point there, Brad. In all fairness, that ES175 was pretty nice, though. I just liked the neck on the X175 a little better.

Does anyone know what type of fret markers or inlays the new F212XL will have?

It was pretty spartan, Bill. Small abalone dots, if I recall, but I have to admit I was paying attention to a lot of other things at that moment. We'll have to wait for collateral from Guild when they're ready to go. Crossing my fingers for "soon."

I never got to play that 12 that Chaz is over the moon about, but all the other Standard Series were glossy nitro finish bodies with satin finished necks (reminded me of Taylors...AHHHHH!), ivoroid binding (unlike the ABS plastic on the D55 et al), and as stated mother-of-pearl dots.
