I hate dating Guilds! First you have to buy 'em dinner... whoops, nevermind.

My (new to me) F47 MCE's serial is AK001937. Guild's site doesn't really cover it, though one might infer that is was made in '95/96 or so...
Hans better publish that new book soon!!

Several of us have discovered date stamps on the heel blocks from that era, if it IS from that period. Check the bevels, might be elsewhere inside the body too. These were stamped during various stages of construction and aren't actuaully "born on dates" but they sure help narrow it down.
By the way I have better luck when I buy 'em strings instead of dinner....

what do you think of it?
First impressions after a new set of strings and a little-cleanup are good.
Imho:
Just not the smoothness of rosewood's tone - sounds bright to the point of crispness.
Doesn't seem as loud as 'hog or rosewood, but is punchier.

The 47's 16" bout simply doesn't have the the bigger tone of a jumbo.
The G41 and both J-65's are louder.
The F47 is louder than the A50, about the same as the F30.
The D40 is about the same volume, but warmer.

Haven't spent any time with the electronics yet, other than to test them.
I'll make a new saddle in the next couple of days and see how that helps the sound.
I do love the access to high frets from the venetian.

Graham, is it spring up there yet?

I think Jim had more snow than we did this year, I know that Carl did.

It'll get cool again before March is through but mostly in the 60s this week.

You could use a nice spring trip to Tejas!!!!!
