I know this isn't a Rickenbacker forum but I wanted to get some opinions on this. I have a Rickenbacker 330 Fireglo- I never play the guitar and it is sitting in the case in dead mint condition. I haven't really sold the thing because they are hard to get and the workmanship is so darn nice, but it is a real waste to keep this thing around.

I was debating putting it up for trade on Craigslist but want to suggest a fair trade. The only thing I really want right now is a blonde X150D- do you guys generally think this is a fair trade?

Hi dB: not sure what good-condition X-150s sell for but a late-model/good-condition 330 is going to be in the +/- $2,000 range.

I think in "today's market" (ha!) your Rickenbacker is probably worth a little more than the Guild you want.

It is really hard for me to tell what the actual value of these later X150's really is. I figured around $1000-1500 and I figure the Rick is probably around the top of this range. Okay I think you've convinced me to just keep the Ric in its case and just look for a blonde Guild and pay with cash.

I don't know anything about Rickenbackers, but if the trade value is ~2K, I'd aim for a nice Hoboken X175. Walter has couple, and I'm sure he would agree. :)

sure the x-175 would hardly be settling in any way!

Believe it or not I was looking at the 1955 x50 I have here and it is NY manufacture too- I don't actually have any Hobokens in the house!

In that case all I can say is "Get to work!"

You need a Hoboken. Sounds like a tough job.

Trading is fun to do, and I've done plenty of it. Most of my trading was done with local non-chain shops where I was friendly with the staff. Tough to find an individual that has something you really like and also wants what you have to make the 1-for-1 swap.

If you're certain that you'd rather have something else of similar value instead of the Ric, be it a Guild or any other guitar, I'd go ahead and sell it, then go shopping. You'll have the freedom of making an independent selection with the new guitar and, somebody might still happen to come along and offer a trade you like.

thank you for all the opinions. You are probably right kakerlak- the chances of finding exactly what I want in a trade are probably fairly remote. Better to sell the ric and go shopping with the money- or just keep the ric and use the gear fund. Just such a shame that the guitar is never played- but I guess its presence in the house doesn't offend me!
