BTW, Fender's buisiness model is not exactly customer friendly.....

After much associated calling, my dealer got ahold of what was the nicest human being on the earth, and he explained why it was taking so long to fix my guitar. They said they just got around to it and they've had to replace the whole top and bracing. It is waiting for the paint booth due to some issues with painting the finish and the existing weather conditions.....if that makes sense?

Either way, it was promised the my guitar will be released to me on or about April 30th. It left for Nashville in early October. I never had any repair of anything take this long, but I guess I just have to trust the repairmen. I am excited that the wait is almost over!!!

Don't know if you read my posts, but my D50 repair (new bridge - original developed a crack) took about 5 months. It was worth the wait.

Wow, and I get perturbed when my luthier takes a month or more!

Mine's down there now for a neck reset and I'm a little nervous. I've spent the last 34 years with that guitar, and it's a huge part of me. They seem like a nice bunch of guys. I'm hoping for the best. I have some more company now, but I still miss her!

I have been completely unsettled over all of this. Man, that D-50 was my main guitar and one of the few acoustic guitars in this world that I instantly bonded with the neck shape. I own very few guitars, but the ones I have chosen fit me like an old shoe. Being the excitablly nervous AD/HD type doesn't help matters, either.

A top replacement is pretty challenging, especially considering Guild doesn't actually make replacement tops, unlike other companies. This means they literally custom-made a top for your particular guitar! I'm actually surprised its been this quick! My refinish and neck reset are taking much longer.

Rest assured that no longer how long it takes, your guitar will definitely have been handled by the best... plus you can say your guitar was recently at the Custom Shop for some work for some instant ego boost!

I guess the nature of the work dictates the length of time in the shop. My JF12-30 needed to have the bridge reglued (started lifting - almost 1/8" space at the bottom). That took just 3 months. Bottom line is both my Guilds are better than when they were new.

Having a bunch of Guilds around is sort of like having a bunch of kids. If one goes off to college, for instance, you get to spend more time with the ones who are still at home.

Get to know your other Guilds and await the homecoming of that D50. Heck, plan a party!

Veer Alert.....

With all of the talk recently about having guitars at the Nashville facility for repairs, does anybody know where Guild did repairs in the mid 80's? I would assume at Westerly, RI, correct, or did they have a repair center at a different location? About 6 months after I bought my F-212XL, I had to send it back through the dealer to have the bridge re-glued. (It was lifting a little bit when I bought the guitar, and it gradually got worse as I played it). Waited a couple of months to get it back, and when I opened up the case I realized they had not sent the guitar back in the original case, it was a sloppy loose fit. As much as I hated to do it, I didn't even take it home, I just had them send the guitar and case back so they could return it with a case that fit (about another 6 weeks later, that is).

Now that I think of it, what did Guild make in the mid 80's that had a lower bout wider than 17", other than some of the very limited production items like F-612's and the like? Maybe they just had given me a factory second case that wasn't made to the right dimensions......

It may have been for a G41 if it was loose mostly around the waist, or possibly for one of the bigger acoustic or electric archtops. Of course the F612 would have been the most logical, as it was bigger all around.

I think it must've been Westerly, kyguild. I don't think there was another facility for repairs. I don't know that for a fact though.
