Hi Guys,

As you know I'm on the lookout for a small bodied Guild. I've played Coasties F20 and A25 (his F20 is a killer guitar, big up's to Coastie for letting me play them), but they are smaller than what I am looking for. I played a GAD 30R the other day, bang on the right size for me. I'm assuming the F30 would be the Westerly equivalent ? I think I've also heard somewhere that they came with Mahoghany, Rosewood or Maple backs ? How rare are these things, I dont recall ever had seen many for sale.

Cheers, Ian

I recently bought a Westerly era F30R here in the F/S section. It's an awesome guitar, and a bit bigger than the A25 (which I've also owned). I cannot compare it to the GAD 30R because I don't own one, but it's very close in size to my Martin 000-15. The F30's body's just a little slimmer. I think I posted the specifics somewhere here so I'll do a search & try to link that thread for you.

I believe there was also another F30R from the same year as mine (a '98) that came up more recently so check the FS section.

A Westerly era F30 might be just what you're looking for. If they made any with maple back/sides, I wasn't aware of that, but it wouldn't shock me either.

Hi Fungus,

Thanks for that. I'm assuming F30R means rosewood. So I guess I'm looking for an F30M in mahoghany, either Hoboken for the sixties ones or a westerly from the nineties ? I seem to recall someone had a Tacoma one for sale, but the Guild website doesn't list the model currently so again I'm assuming they are discontinued ? (not really an issue as I would rather have a Westerly or Hoboken anyway...).

Cheers, Ian

There's an old F-30 I visit every time I go to my local luthier, Randy Wood. A few months ago (last May) I took my Guild GAD 30R over to Randy's and A/Bed the two guitars. Here's the thread Old F-30/New GAD 30R I posted complete with some pictures and comments from other LTGers.

I've since purchased a 1965 M-20 (which is a lot smaller than the GAD 30R) but noticed this old babe is still on the wall at Randy's when I took the M-20 in for some work. I sure hope someone takes her home.

The F-30 body is a bit bigger and deeper...Joan
