My D4 is getting a K&K active pickup this week. Next I need to pick an amp. I am considering a Roland; perhaps the AC-33 with the built in looper... or a Fender acoustasonic with a jam man looper (or similar) plugged in. I play finger style. I'm new to acoustic amps. Looking for recommendations. Thanks.

What are you going to use the amp for? Small venue, coffee house kind of gigs? Larger venues? Do you want to just amplify the guitar or add vocals and/or other instruments into the mix?

My favorite small acoustic amp is a Trace Elliott. Genz Benz a close second. I've played thru a few different Fender Acoustasonics and while not awful they are not my faves. I find them a bit "crunchy" when pushed. At mid volume settings they hold up well.

If you want to add vocals and/or other instruments I'd suggest you look at a small P.A.. More versatile than a straight acoustic amp.

Thanks for the input. I need something suited to small spaces. Not a lot of horsepower. I plan to drive one guitar with looped overlays. Another friend suggested a PA system as well.

I thought the acoustic amps were designed to maximize the sound of an acoustic guitar. Do you get the same results with a PA system?

Keep in mind that a PA is a lot less portable than an amp. And in my experience a budget PA with rudimentary effects (especially limited EQ capability) often won't produce a good acoustic sound.

Thanks. I'm looking into the Genz Benz Shen Jr. now (and Shen Jr. LT - not sure what the LT means yet). I am kinda surprised that it has a 10" speaker. I would have expected something smaller.

Genz Benz makes a very nice acoustic amp. Good choice.

Ross is right. P.A.'s are a lot more cumbersome. If you want a fairly small system, mostly to drive a looper and other effects then a acoustic amp is the way to go.
