Hey gang:
My second S-90, and the second time a generous soul helped out. With S-90 #1, it was Dane, who fabricated a back plate when I mislaid the original. Now with S-90 #2, it was Tony R.
The problem was the slightly modded original bridge ... the mods being two little grooved steel blocks replacing the string rollers on the low E, A strings:
That mod eliminated the low E popping out of the saddle, also changed the string radius, lowering the two bass strings. Or so I suspected. Turned out to be right. Tony volunteered two non stock roller saddle assemblies. The saddles were threaded properly for the stock posts. So it was easy to make the swap and re-intonate. The roller saddles sure did indeed make a difference. Last week I'd dialed the bridge down just right for the outer strings, but the D/G strings were still too high. After the swap, bass strings sat higher, so I could lower the bass side of the bridge a bit more. It plays much better, feels much better.
Endless thanks to Dane and Tony R. for their generous S-90 assistance. Because of such folks, LTG is a remarkable resource.
Thanks
MD
