I was watching the recording of Soundgarden at Lollapalooza in 2010, enjoying the parade of Kim's S-100's as he changed from axe to axe. At one point the lighting and camera was right to see the true color of the "green machine" S-100. Dayum! That is one beautiful guitar! Anyone know how many green ones were made? For now I have to make due with my transparent emerald green Les Paul. Like Kim's guitar, it looks black most of the time, but with brighter direct lighting you see the deep green. Still looking for a white S-100 too! Gah! Too many guitars not enough $$$$$!

Tell me about it, man! I wonder though if all of Kim's S-100 have HB1 pickups. He did say that live he plays newer Guilds, I assume reissues. They all have HB1 pup covers, I give him that but what's they got under?

Also went through a Soundgarden videos fest yesterday and saw a natural in The Day I Tried To Live and a white one in Rusty Cage video. It's a shame he didn't play S-300 on Outshined during that Lolla 2010 show.

Also Jon from this thread apparently is still thinking about selling his white reish.

I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure the rusty cage video is his famous vintage refin.

Hammer, please . It's painful. You are one fortunate man to have that in your hands.

I did notice too that Kim has HB1 covers. I'm sure he could/can afford to have on all his 100's, including retrofitting his re-issues.

Veering slightly off subject, I really like the satin black ES-335 that Cornell was using too. So very many, many guitars.....

That's probably true but what about his black, natural and green S-100s?[/quote:qfcrs22q]
His puddy (natural) and green ones have "S-100" marked on the TRC's. that makes them either 1977 or reissues. If you look at the distance from bridge to angled tail, then there's no way they can be 1977's. That leaves us with early reissues as the only answer. :)

Don't know about any black ones he's played.

The natural he holds in his hands on the cover of Guitar World also has gold hardware as does his black S-100 that doesn't have "S-100" written on the TRC.

If you're talking about this black one, pretty sure it's an early 70's version.

Then again, I'm not sure.

Do you have a picture of the black one with gold hardware?

Sorry for the triple post. Now that I think of it, I can't recall if the green one says "s-100" or not, but I'm certain that the natural/gold one does.

Here's the GC cover:

OK, is this one the black one you are referring to?

Picture-11.png

This one is a REALLY odd duck. Subtle signs point to early reissue/custom build:

- late 70's/reissue bridge with notches
- early 70's stop distance
- thin frets (this was a big surprise to me)
- looks like reissue era tuners

Anything else?

Danger - MASSIVE CLOSUP ALERT!

Ya-huh. Also his natural S-100 is too orange-looking so it's definitely a reissue.

Sure I do. Granted the gold is worn out but it's visible nonetheless.

And green one too doesn't have "S-100" on the TRC - still a reish.

Since he was practically an endorser of the model in the 90s Guild might have put HB1s in all his reissues.

That black one theoretically could have been custom made for him inasmuch as the bridge has notches (I can't make it out clearly however, LA's got a pair of eagle eyes  ) and gold hardware. I don't remember seeing anymore S-100s with gold hardware.

I've seen him break out his S-300 live too. Can you imagine the kind of attention he received from Guild during SG's heyday? They must've been falling over themselves to give him guitars.

Yeah. But it was only one blonde ash model with DiMarzios. Haven't seen him with another one.
