I don't suppose anyone has a schematic for this amp or knows where I can find one?
Hi Noah; as have several other people, I've spent considerable timing surfing the web for early Guild schematics and I'm sorry to say that the earliest I have is the 66J, a twin 6V6 design. Last year, FMIC did LTG a solid by furnishing nearly all the later designs; Thunder 1 / Thunderbird v.1 and followers but none of the early ones. This Link will take you to the Univox page that contains a number of schematics however a twin 6AQ5 model isn't listed/linked there. If you're interested in working on it, a schematic isn't an absolute necessity; fact is, plenty of amps don't match their schematics one for one anyway. If you'll post plenty of pics, there are several members including me who will help you get through a new power cord, fresh power supply caps, and the other bare re-hab necessities. CJ

One thing to keep in mind is the 6aq5 is a 7 pin 6v6. It's going to call for a 250 cathode resistor on the powertubes and you can use the online resistor app to determine what the installed values are. It may be that the factory used a similar circuit and just changed the output section.

! more question, does this amp take the old "latch" style footswitch?
Hi Greg; not sure I know what you mean by 'latch'. The mechanical legs of the jack assembly inside the chassis 'latch' onto the male plug if that's what you mean. Do you have a jack to plug a footswitch into? If not, then the switch has to be wired to the depth or speed control ... whichever you have. If you do have a jack, then any single-function fender-style footswitch will work. CJ

Hi
I normally hang on the archtops section, but happened to notice nmiller's post re no PCB technology in the 60s, and CJs reply above:
''Printed circuit boards had been around for a while; they just hadn't been adapted to instrument amps''.

If it's of any interest, I own a printed circuit board echolette B40N amp from 1961, all valve, made in germany. It's still in service, although the traces have given trouble over the years during cap replacement. GZ34, EL34s and ECC83s, the european 6L6/ 12AX7 equivalents of the time, and semi-toroidal trannies.
cheers
Chris

Hi Chris: how about ... ''Printed circuit boards had been around for a while; they just hadn't been widely adapted to instrument amps''. Is that ok w/ you Chris?

Now, where are the pics? :D

Here's a pic of the board in my el-cheapo Stewart amp. Still point to point but on a fiberboard, with directly board mounted sockets.
