Just wondering how often these come up for sale and if easy to get hold of?

Would like one for my '68 Starfire IV and noticed one on ebay but seller won't send to Australia..... Price looks ok, condition average, would be nice to have the correct Guild case. Depending on how easy/hard to get will determine my persistance.

Cheers, Zoran.

Zoran,

Considering the close resemblance between a Starfire and a reissue Hagstrom Viking, perhaps a Hagstrom case like the one I bought for my 2008 Hagstrom Viking would would work. They cost about $100.

I have what I believe to be the original case for my 1969 Starfire IV. It was not in good shape when I got it 30 years ago and is simply falling apart now. I would think that anything that fits a Gibson ES335, Epi Sheraton, Ibanez AS73 etc should work fine for a Starfire IV.

Anyone play one of the new Hagstroms in the pic above? If so what are your thoughts.

Most Starfires have 16 1/4" bouts. Try before you buy!

Sick man.

I've no doubt that one of our Guild brethren would gladly purchase the case and ship it for you. But, judging by previous discussion re. oversize consignments to Oz, it would end up a bloody expensive case !

Check this outfit for "Canadian Cases". Range is huge and price is right. There's bound to be an Oz distributor.

The one shown was mine. Got it new for $425 (the case was an extra $100) and it was tremendous, particularly if you like thin necks. The build quality was outstanding for the price and the tones were wonderful. I would up selling it to a friend of mine on another guitar forum, a veteran guitar player and an owner of many guitars over the years who said the Viking was one of the best semi-hollows he ever played. He would up selling it to a friend of his in a fit of GAS, but admitted to me that he regretted doing so after the fact.

I sold it because I got an amazing deal on one of these (actually this particularl one...)

That's a very cool looking guitar! What model is that? The headstock is different then the current Hagstroms that I am seeing on their website.

Um, never mind. That's a Duesenberg.

One of my 1966 Starfire XII came in a non period correct, Guild branded, TKL case.

I tried a 1967 Starfire IV in the same case, and that worked.

I am currently checking out TKL cases for semi-acoustics, which are sold by a music store chain here in Belgium.

They're in stock in one store which is pretty far away from where I live, so I asked if they could transfer one case from that store to the store which is close by.

It should normally arrive in a week.

I'll check it out then, and will note an update here.

The TKL case of my Starfire XII has proven to be reliable, and I just don't want to take any chances with the original 1967 Starfire IV case , which is beautiful to look at, but where the padding hardly appears to be protective at all.

Thanks for the replies all, think I might forget the idea of an original case. Time and money best spent on the guitar!

I'll look into some of the new alternatives mentioned. Cheers for the suggestions.

Before you give up on the idea of an original case check with Hans Moust. He is the author of The Guild Guitar Book, and has access to a bigger and better supply of Guild parts and accessories than most, if not all. Better still, he is a member of this site, so his contact info can be found under "Members". Good luck!
