I was searching for some info on my CV-1 and found this forum again after being away for a few years. What a treat. While I was searching I saw a bunch of threads about the contemporary series neck system and they were interesting. I always wondered why they discontinued them. My CV-1 (natural) has been totally rock solid. I never had to touch the truss rod after the initial adjustment 3 years ago. It's very stable. The guitar itself is loud but very sweet sounding. I also have a Westerly D-35 but my go-to guitar for live work and recording is the CV-1. It's much easier to play with the wider fingerboard. I don't use a pickup. Just a good mic live and in the studio and it sounds fantastic.

I wasn't a fan of the new style pickguards so I put a pretty Martin style one on and I really like the look. Also, swapped out the Gotoh's for some gold Grover Sta-Tites. I know the Gotoh's are supposed to be better but the 18:1 Grovers are much smoother in my opinion and they were an exact swap for the most part. I also installed an oversize brass strap pin to replace the chrome one. All in all, it's a very pretty guitar. The Madagascar rosewood on the headstock, board and bridge has some the most beautiful grain patterns I've ever seen. My board is one of the real dark ones with the swirly grain. Stunning.

I just wanted to say the folks who bought one of these fine guitars that mine works great and I absolutely love it. Every time I pick it up a new song falls out of it. It's a great songwriting partner. Definitely a keeper.

My good buddy here in town has a CV-1C and it is a super little guitar. I had the chance to play it a few times and was really impressed. He plays mostly fingerstyle and it really sounds great.

I have a CO-1C. I bought it used but it was not one of the refurbished "used" guitars on e-bay. I am at least the third owner - the fellow I bought it from also bought it used from a music store.

It's a fabulous guitar to play, and I'm really particular about that.
It was really beat up when I got it, so I sanded it down to bare wood and refinished it.
I also made a small neck angle adjustment on it.

I think the graphite neck block was a great concept. It may have needed a bit of engineering tweeking, but overall a good concept.

I agree that they can be great guitars. It's too bad that they did not sell well. Botched marketing by Fender in my opinion. And now they have a very negative stigma from all of the refurbished ones.

I was at a open mic this week. New player showed up with a Contemporary series Guild. Not sure the model number. Acoustic electric, cutaway. Beautiful sound amped up and looked terrific. Hope he comes back so a I can get a better look.

I have one too and it's a great playing and looking guitar. I agree, Fender missed the boat on marketing this one. It should have gone head to head against Taylor and kicked butt against those funky Martins that have all the numbers and letters in their names.
