After receiving my F512 (Maple) I am still loving this 12 string. In fact, I am liking far more than my 6 strings.

I am wondering if it might be a "size" issue. The neck of the F512 is almost perfectly sized for my hands and the Taylor I have is almost too delicate a neck for me.

For people that have played both, how do the F512 and F55/F40 compare in terms of neck size, shape, feel? Is it a difference of night and day, or does it feel completely different?

How does the F40 or F55 come in a version with a cutaway? My instructor is having me play a lot further up the fretboard these days. (12-15th frets)

Thanks in advance

Glad you're enjoying your F-512 Maple, Stonehauler! I've been primarily a 12-string player most of my life.

I don't really know how the current models compare to the past, but 12-string necks are generally a little wider and a little thicker than their 6-string counterparts. And, the truth is, I don't notice all that much when I go back and forth. Some people are a lot more sensitive to that than I am.

Anyway, good luck in the hunt. Make sure you try the rosewood version someday... You may never go back! :D

Actually, I got the maple because I felt the rosewood got too "muddled" with all the harmonics. The Maple gives great sustain and separation of the notes. While the harmonics are diminished vs rosewood, there are still a lot there. The big body of the jumbo for bass, and the brightness of the maple create...to me...the perfect combination for a 12 string.
