He has his guitar tuned BDDDDD for that song, slides two fingers up and down the neck for the easy alternate tuning advantage. I use a standard tuning except for I drop the 1st string treble E to D. Standard open cowboy chords with a Bm in there. I think other gig guys do the same. Sounds about the same but fuller. I can tune my treble E string back up on the fly for the next song without having to change guitars.
