Last week, I was with a friend visiting his luthier's appointment only workshop. From the reception area, I caught a glimpse of something on a workbench in the backroom that looked a bit like M75/Aristocrat, except that the proportions looked slightly wrong and the pots were mounted in the pick guard. It also seemed to have a Fender-like F in the middle of the what seemed to be a Guild head stock. I asked about it, and the luthier immediately went and closed the door to the back room, saying his work with his clients' guitars was entirely confidential--no discussion--no pictures--no nada.

Would this be something like one of the Fender/Guild/DeArmond things?

Oh no! Much much older! See Hans book page 82!

Or read this:

So you can feel special having seen one of them in the wild!

That seems like weird behavior from the shop owner.

Maybe somebody was allowed to take pictures of a rare bird in their shop in the past and then used them in an auction scam on eBay or Reverb. Either that, or they're paranoid that somebody will use the PICs to help determine the value of what's in the shop to decide whether it's worth their while to break inand steal stuff later: not an unreasonable fear, actually.

If either is the case, once again: a few scumbags degrade quality of life for the honest majority of folks (or am I being too optimistic?).
