I've posted this before and it must be time to repost, given that the solution has yet to surface.

D4-12

I want to refinish the headstock and apply a Guild (of course)silkscreen/overlay/logo. Anyone? Bueller, Bueller...? :?:

I'm ready to do it now, and of course there will be pics when the job is done!

Thanks,
Joe

What model 12 string is it? Did it have a headstock overlay at one time? If so which logo did it have originally, inlayed or silk screen?
both can be re-done.

The D4-12 was mahogany, so you would first needs a piece of mahogany for the headstock veneer, and afterwards a golden silk screen logo.
Have you ever talked to Hans regarding Guild decals?
Otherwise every T-Shirt printing shop can probably silkscreen the logo on the Mahogany veneer before you attach it to the headstock. You just need to talk to them in which computer format they need the logo from you to put it in their computer.
Here's a 1993:

There it is! A golden silk screen logo! That's what I'm seeking. :D
It appears that a previous owner sanded off the logo and did a custom paint job on the headstock, and that's what you're seeing.
The mahogany is there....I just need the logo.

You mean you first need to sand off the old black paint, or?

To tell the truth, Ralf, I'm torn betweeen the natural and the black, but that's another decision for another day.
The black might actually look cool with the gold silkscreen logo. 8)

It depends obviously also what the black color really was. If it is a black wood stain it might be very deep in the wood already, so sanding it off is impossible. So in that case you probably have no other choise to make it all black (also not easy to get it to a uniform black!), unless you sand it off completely and put another thin Mahogany veneer on top.

I don't believe that there is a headstock overlay on this style of headstock. The neck and headstock are mahogany and you should just need the logo.

@Fixit: Correct, but that is how his headstock looks right now:
That's why my concern was how to get the black color either off, or all black, as it looks like black wood stain was applied which you would not be able to just sand away, or? And since probably laquer is over the wood stain you could not just apply additional wood stain in the middle either...

Stay tuned,

I'm thinking: Stencil? With an appropriate color/composition of "paint" (ink)?
I got a sneaking suspicion you could figure out how to get the right size/outline using images on the web or even maybe one of your guitars on hand, depending on how "OEM" you want it to look.

Chesterfield logos show up on eBay now and again. Recently (in the last month?) someone did have a gold Guild headstock decal. You might see if they have another? Same seller had a G-shield logo in MOP (to be inlaid).
