And you can probably find a set of your desired pickups used, as well. I've bought used pickups with success.

Enjoy your adventure.
Thankfully I’ve had a lot of great fortune purchasing used. The strat was used, and so are most of my guitars. Looking for used parts is a good idea.

Also! Thanks for the reminder that this whole thing is a journey. For learning and enjoying along the way. And not the “end goal.” 🙂

I was able to plug in over the weekend with a friend who has an excellent home set up. Holy. Smokes!! Acoustically it’s very bright. Somewhat thin. But plugged in, that guitar comes alive! Everything “missing” is added by the pickups. Very dynamic, articulate, full and clear!

The difference is astonishing. It sounds good unplugged, but not quite what I’m looking for. But the electronic system they have is tremendous. It’s partially transducer pickups, and partially microphone. There are on board EQ’s in addition to being able to blend the two voices.

I’m thinking the move forward may be to snag a (true) acoustic (no electronics) for home use and fun when unplugged. Which may also be cheaper since there’s no electronics. And keep this one for plugged in work.

I have a cheap classical guitar that my parents gave me in about the 6th grade, first guitar I ever had. It's in decent shape now but I hardly play it but I'll never get rid of it for sentimental reasons. My folks are both gone now, and I have specifically left that piece to my son in my will as a reminder of them

GSFV,

It is a journey that many call a "Tone-Quest", myself included. Trying to find that undefinable sound and tone that you may not be able to describe, but when you hear it and feel it, a smile comes across your face and you go "Whoa... yeah... that's what I'm talkin' about!!"

Most of my guitars I bought used for two reasons: A) budget and B) the project of cleaning it up, and doing the repairs and tweaks needed to make it what you like to play. I love a project like that!!

Ditto Wilmywood,

Christmas of my 19th year, my Mother said "You're all getting only one present this year and not over $100". I found an Epiphone FT-145 (entry level) acoustic at a local music shop for $110 and I still have it. It, of course, sounds like a $100 guitar, but for sentimental reasons, I've never let it go.

….and C) I trust a 10-15+ yr old guitar w/ a perfect neck to remain that way more than a brand new guitar. Especially when it comes to offshore models)

I think the only new guitar I ever owned was my very first. A student grade Yamaha acoustic. All my guitars/amps/pedals…all used. And all worth much much more than I paid. 👍🏻
