The 137 is a semi hollow that is a bit wider than a Dot... so it has that semi hollow sound, but its a bit fuller (if that makes sense) than a dot (es-335/starfire IV).

Bottom line is any guild you buy (or Gibson ES) is going to sound and play better than your Epis... of course that is my opinion...

Stoptail piece = solidbody. So, basically, the 137 is pretty much what you already have.

Why would you want the same voice, when you could have an additional voice to sing with?

i absolutely love my 66 STARFIRE II. i have a cpl of full body archtops a 17" Peerless Monarch w a floating pickup and a 15" EASTMAN 803CE15. they're both great gtrs that i also love but my STARFIRE can get pretty close to their tones (while having a few other tricks up her sleeve) and when i'm playing in louder situations the thinner body of the SF is less prone to feeding back.

that's a factor you might want to consider when choosing a body style....how loud you'll be playing. for the most part larger bodies are more likely to feedback when pushed at higher volume than a smaller body. also your proximity to your amp is less important w a smaller body.

talking about tone is super subjective....you can tell only so much listening to youtube, albums, or performances.....since tone is hugely a product of the player. so my best advice is not to draw to many tone conclusions w/o playing as many Guilds (or whatever brand) yourself...preferably thru the amp you regularly plan on using.

my 2 piastas!

In the spirit of this forum, I guess this means I'll have to buy one of each (Starfire II, III, and CE-100D) to see which I like better... and keep them all.

Excuse me while I take out another equity line on my house..

Man, I was really close to buying a ES137 Custom before I got my first X170. Real close.

I'm just going to slip this in real quiet-like, but... thanks to everyone for your help and pointing me in the right direction.

It's happy NGD in my household. A '77 CE100D SB. :)

Busy weekend, so not much time with the new guitar, but first impression - this thing is BIG. And HEAVY!

Post pics when I get to it.. but again, thanks everyone!!

Very nice choice with the CE-100D, you will love it! I had one years ago as a foolish teenager then sold it to pay some bills (ongoing theme in my life through my teens and early 20's). It was my answer at that time to the ES-175, only MUCH more affordable. As it turned out, IMHO, it was no less the guitar. I will own another one day for sure!

Enjoy, and I'm looking forward to seeing some pics soon!
