Here's what I did to a DeArmond..

Bought a cheapie DeArm 5 string Jazz, from Reverb. paid less than 300. then I went overboard. complete upgrade of pickups and bridge.

Bridge: Schaller 3D roller. Pickups: Bartolini J Bass 59J1. This instrument already had the onboard 3 band EQ.

Soooo...do I now have a Pilot V Plus??? Oh well, It plays really well. Strings: DR Black Beauties!!
Boom Boom Boom. (lower than Treble again...)

Very cool! I have a Pilot Pro V project I may be working on soon, and was planning to use those pickups, if it all comes to be. Mine is black and rosewood also. But the bridge is gold. Which strings did u use?? tapewounds? the black motif looks killer
