...I was in our favorite music store today, whole bunch of new Guilds...NH D-55, NH D50 (damn!), a D40 that I can't recall the origin, a Tacoma F20 (I think), several GAD's...AND
a GAD F212...very, very nice...looks like a jumbo body but is small, neck is nice and wide though I suspect the right hand might be a little cramped between the strings...
But it had YOUR name on the tag so I put it back down
Actually I was there to check out the GAD's, as a friend was quizzing me on them with the thought of making one a travel guitar. He has his eye on a Taylor 114ce, which I was fortunate enough to also play there today.
Hard call. The (Mexican) Taylor is very nice, perfect fit and finish, though I don't personally care for that satin or rubbed or whatever they call the finish. Very bright guitar, can see why he likes it 'cause that's his thing, the GAD30RE was much more balanced and bassy...sounded like a guitar! But at several hundred dollars more than the Taylor, the 114ce might be the winner.
Money no object, I'd tell him to spring for a GAD30PCE like mine...
