I would be very interested in playing and hearing a cross between an Arched Back Guild and an Ovation/ Adamas.
You know, the one with all the smaller holes in the top.

With Fender owning both companies, this could be done.
It would take away that horrible round back that Ovation used and replace it with a nice arched wooden back like the old D-25 had.

So what do you think?

I know where a Tacoma guitar is. You know, the one with the soundhole in the upper bout and not in the traditional spot. Interested?

Hey TMG,

IIRC the very first prototype ovation was made using a wooden bowl concept but there were issues controlling the resonances, which is why they struck on the idea of using the same material they used to make helicopter blades.

I'm quite happy with Guilds being Guilds and Ovations being Ovations.

Cheers, Ian

Yep.
He had a point about those awful bowl backs though.
Never could get one to stay in my lap without falling off.

@ Al, perhaps you need them to manufacture one with a reverse bowl shape so that it moulds to your form better ?

Not sure about a hybrid mix...

But I sure love my '90 Ovation Model 1869 Custom Legend!

It's the "Super Shallow Bowl" design and while it sounds pretty poor acoustically, I can get some amazing sounds out of it plugged in. Think "Simon & Garfunkle Concert in Central Park".

Also, this Ovation has the best neck I've ever felt on ANY guitar. In short, it ain't goin' nowhere!

Have a look:

I have always liked the looks of the Adamas guitar but never liked the bowl back.
If it had the arched wooden back of a D-25 and the top of an Adamas, I would think that it would be the best of both worlds.
I would love to play one.

Al...

I had the same problem until someone told me about the small "Slip Grip" patch made for Ovations. Cheap at around $12.95 (eBay) and, best of all, it WORKS!

I have one on my Model 1869CL and it ended the slippage problem for good.

The one Ovation I owned came with one. 70s classical with a pickup.
