Hello Citizens of Guild-land,

After a wonderful adventure tracking down a Guild Starfire XII, I had to ask the question: “How many of these lovely instruments are out there?”

I’ve been doing a little math on the back of an envelope using the Guild Serial Number list (http://support.guildguitars.com/downloads/datingyourguild.pdf) and the information in Hans Moust’s book (The Guild Guitar Book available now in paperback on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Guitar-...9664/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321441709&sr=8-1).

So between 1966 and 1969, a total of 810 Starfire XIIs were produced. Breakdown by year is:

1966 = 486 SF XIIs produced
1967 = 310
1968 = 1 (Yes, really)
1969 = 13 (According to Mr. Moust, the serial numbers in ’69 should start with DC 898)

1970 – 73 = unknown (serial numbers not available for individual models)
1974 = discontinued

Anyone have an estimate of the number produced from 1970-73?

Based on the huge drop in production in 68-69, I can’t imagine many SF-XIIs were produced in the 70’s. Would a total SF XII production of less than 850 be a good guess?

I guess probably the only person who could give you a useful answer to that question would be Hans Moust.

I'm interested if Hans has an estimate on this myself. I'd love to have one of the 70s models with the larger pickups!
