It totally depends on where in the world (or US) you are. In the midwest I've heard $700-900. On the West coast it's more like $1200 or more. Do you need one? And where in the world are you?? That info would help. We have people, we know people.....

Here in Portland, the shop where I take my guitars charges $475 for Martins and $525 for Guilds and Gibsons.

Just realzed you have a set neck bass that needs a reset? That sounds like more work. Sorry, didn't notice the forum...

Prices can indeed vary widely. One place in Orlando charges around $1200 but my go-to luthier (who has been doing work for me for some years now) charged me less than $400. Should also note it was a 1954 Gretsch hollowbody guitar, which I know did not make for an easy job.

With no knowledge of the process whatsoever I would expect a neck reset on a JS I or II to be less work than a reset on a B30 or B50. I think the "pocket" is smaller, and there will be less work at restoring the finish. But causal conversations with a couple shops in the mid-Atlantic suggest that as soon as the word "reset" is used the price is at least $400 or the shop is not interested in the job. That reaction comes before the words "Guild" or "bass" are used.

I would ask around, lungimsam. You never know, and all luthiers are different, as long as you trust the person.

My guy did a neck reset on my '65 Hofner Club Bass for $200, but that was a long time ago 15 years ago. Things have radically changed. I'm pretty sure he would do one for about $400 nowadays, though. And he's a total pro.

I don’t know about basses, but on a guitar and depending on how the luthier does things, you often have to factor in other charges. The reset may require a new saddle, new nut, fret leveling or replacement, minor paint/stain/finish, and a setup (sometimes included in the reset cost).

I was toying with the idea of getting a cheap busted up JS bass that needed a reset, but it sounds like definitely not worth the throuble!!
