I have recently purchased a Guild X-79. First off, this is the best guitar I have ever purchased. I love the neck, the fret size, even the stock pick-ups. This thing just shreds. I was wonder if anyone could shed some light on the back ground of this guitar. I do not know the year, or if it has the original hardware. It has a kahler tremolo bridge and locks. The volume and tone knobs have "V" and "T" on the top of them. Unlabeled humbucking pick-ups. The serial is AD101252. What year is it?!?!?! What is it worth?? HELP!

I'm also looking into picking this other one up. It doesn't have the tremolo bridge, and it has the standard guild headstock. It's serial is AD100004. What's up with that??

This is an early one that had the chesterfield headstock. They pop up every now and then so that's OK. I've seen them with stop and kahler bridges. Flickr is blocked here, so I'll take a look at the pics when I get home. Welcome!

AD101252 seems to be from 1984.

AD100004 is from 1981, sounds like the 4th ever build?

Now that I've gotten my literature straightened out you can expect to be bombarded with stuff like this!

Here's my "set"!

And then with the matching X-702 bass. (Why wasn't it an X-709 bass?)

Yeah I have seen the brochure. I read somewhere that the one with the standard head is a prototype model used by salesmen. It also said that it is estimated to have been made between 78 and 79. Info is so hard to find on these!
