I have heard that these can be pretty good guitars, but I don't think I've seen them fetch this kind of money.

Curious to know... did Guild actually sue Takamine?

I worked on a Takamine 12 string Martin copy from the same era and was impressed with it. Great sound and constitution. I'm sure this is an equally great guitar, but does it seem to everyone else that the price is on the high side? It seems like it's awfully close to what an actual Guild from the same era would cost.

I have the same guitar and it has some great tone to it, plus the neck is still straight , lots of saddle and a fairly flat belly. No neck reset even remotely necessary. It is however a laminate rosewood back and sides with a solid spruce top. I have seen this model sell on ebay for $1000 (which goes to show you how unrealistic some guitars can be priced, yet they still sell) and also for around the $500 mark. I have medium strings on mine and tuned up to concert pitch to boot. Takamine did a good job as the structural integrity has remained pretty much unchanged for 30 years. This guys guitar is probably in great shape but $800 is a bit high. I think he could probably get $600 for it. Just my 2 cents worth.

I once played a Takamine F50R copy that was very nice. Good tone, good playability.

Hi OWF: in the 'lawsuit' era, there was only one lawsuit actually filed: "....Norlin (Gibson) v. Elger/Hoshino U.S.A. (Ibanez) on June 28, 1977 in the Philadelphia Federal District Court, and was based on the Gibson headstock design. Hoshino settled out of court in early 1978 and the case was officially closed on February 2, 1978.".

Not saying that various US mfrs didn't give the finger to other Asiapan mfrs but this is the only one that made it to the courthouse.
