If you are never going to buy a new Guild, are you still helping out the brand?

I've supported them by purchasing this little Oxnard beauty. Will I buy another new Guild? Maybe.

It's difficult to make a case for buying a new Guild when I can buy used NH models in good condition at half the cost.

That's kind of how I feel about it, especially since it seems like New Hartford Guild was trying to compete on being a better guitar for the dollar than the better known competition, which really translates used.

Now it seems like they are competing by being less expensive than the competition but by also being cost conscious in how the guitars are made to a degree.

However I guess I help them by telling anyone who will listen how good they are.

I don't think you have to own something to like something and want to talk about it. Think Harley Davidson. I consider the Westerly Collection made in Asia as much a Guild as the US made Guilds. If one wants to differentiate between the Asian Guilds and the US made Guilds that's fine, but they are still both Guilds. I came here when I had a D-240. I traded it on a D-20 but I still consider the D-240 worthy of the name.

At our first LTG in New Hartford, Frank U. said their biggest competition was their used models...and that did figure into what they were going to produce.

At that time, they had just brought a new D-55 to market.

Or...did I get that wrong?

My first car was a 1969 Mustang. I loved that car. A 2023 Mustang has virtually nothing in common with a '69. I wouldn't buy a 2023. I have no interest in "supporting" Ford Motor Company. I own and play Westerly and Hoboken Guilds which I love but . . . . . . I have little interest in "supporting" 'Guild guitars'.

I’ll buy a JS-II if they put one out, no matter where it is made, and if the price is right.
So far, my Starfires are my favorite basses of all time.

Every time we in the forum buy a Guild, new or used, everyone here gives the purchase a thumbs up. We often give pretty darn good reviews of them, new or old as well. This forum is probably the largest source of web search knowledge on the planet. It is not infrequently that when the Guild name comes up elsewhere, the response from those without one is at least positive. " I don't own one but all the reviews I read are good. I need to play one someday. " I think keeping the name findable in topics newer than last century is actually doing them a pretty good service.
I can't help Ovation, really. It's nice to think this forum might be helping my other favorite brand.

"......I hate their Asia solution......" I get where you are coming from but
That's a pretty hard statement although everyone is intitaled to their opinion.

I've owned quite a few American Guilds and certainly wonderful guitars but the Westerly overseas are not to be
mis counted. I have had 2 great purchases from their "Asia" solution and have become my go to acoustics.
So much so, I sold my American Guilds.
Well built, beautiful sound and certainly worth the Guild logo.
Crazy, eh? You like what you like. It is just where I landed.

But I'm sure like any other guitar line, model or build origin their are going to be good ones and certainlyy not so good ones.
I may have landed a couple good ones. Had there not been an "Asia" solution, I would not have my 2 favorite guitars.

I don’t mind supporting the brand one bit, I mean we are all on this forum singing their praises and that certainly helps them. But I just recently registered my NOS Guild and received a notice for 20% off in their shop, I promptly went and bought a coffee mug and shirt, and most definitely I will wear the Guild shirt out and about, rotate it in with my Fender or Gibson shirts. If that promotes the brand and gives them free advertising, so be it. I mean I wear MLB team hats and they don’t pay me to wear their hats but I do, and I love guitars and like telling the world that fact when I’m out and about. Guild is a great American perseverance story and they should be commended and supported. Seems odd to me if your stance is screw Guild they don’t need my help, then why even be on the forum with folks that really do like the brand and support them?

I started with an Epiphone starter model many moons ago, but once I bought my used Guild M-20 back in 1981, it has been the standard I judge all other acoustics by. Having said that, the only new Guild I've bought was a 1995 Westerly D-4E when rumors swirled that Fender was buying the company. All my other Guilds have been purchased used.

And almost all my other guitars of any brand have been bought used, as prefer to tinker with guitars and buy ones that need a tweak or a repair of some sort. And some are used and just need a good cleaning and a decent "set up" done.

I agree that our word-of-mouth endorsements and our praising on forums are great support for the Guild company.

To be honest, I have never really thought of helping the 'brand' when I bought guitars.

I purchased what sounded and played good in my hands. Yes, of course, I would have gone out with the idea of getting a Strat or Les Paul, but if the guitars that I liked were not from Fender or Gibson, it wouldn't have worried me.

BTW, I did end up with Fender and Gibson, but only because they sounded and played good to me.

Thats the reason why I ended up with guild. Only guild guitars and one Bass ( two of orher Brands) here. Also I like the look and feel. I am not in the market for new Instruments anymore, since the ones I have deliver all I need. But I love the ones I have.
