After collecting info for the past 3 years, I thought I’d share some "how to date my guitar" info for the Indonesian-made Guilds. Also please check out Ralf's (@SFIV1967) excellent post for more info.
The Newark Street Surfliner series include the Surfliner, Surfliner HH, and Surfliner Deluxe. These are made by PT Cort in Indonesia. Here is an example serial number and how to decode it.
G4221906 can be viewed as G 4 22 1906 where:
G = Guild
4 = facility or unit? To date, this has always been the number 4.
22 = year (2022)
1906 = annual running total (the 1906th guitar made in 2022)
The Newark Street Starfire I series include the Starfire I SC, Starfire I DC, Starfire I-12, Starfire I Jet 90, and Starfire I Bass. The Newark Street Polara series includes the Polara, Polara Deluxe, Polara Night Edition, and Kim Thayil Signature. These are made by PT Samick in Indonesia. Here is an example of an actual serial number from a Starfire I DC and how to decode it.
ISG220854983 can be viewed as ISG 22 08 5 4983 where:
ISG = Indonesia Samick Guild
22 = year (2022)
08 = month (August)
5 = facility or unit? To date, this has almost always* been the number 5.
4983 = running total from that month (the 983rd guitar made in August 2022).
*The only exception I’ve seen so far has been for serial numbers from very early production of the Starfire I series in January and March 2020 where the digit is zero. Example: ISG200103841.
