As I mentioned in my previous thread about a new guitar heading my way...it arrived today! Yes, it's not a Guild but I really don't care, it's amazing. I'd also like to say that FedEx did an excellent job of getting it here without problems. I had it before noon today (Thurs) and it didn't leave Nashville until 6:30 pm on Tuesday. I took it over to my local guitar shop where it got a workout from all the guys there (I love to have someone else play my guitars, they sound different across the room and besides, these guys can play circles around me). These pictures don't show the "character" like the previous ones did, but let's start with '53 00-18 next to my 2008 GAD 30R for some comparison visually. The 00-18 is just a tad smaller.

Congratulations Joan. It's a beauty, mojo and all, and there sure seems to be lots of nice guitars in Music City!

Play it in good health.

So I have to ask, how does the tone/sound compare to the the F30 that you almost bought a while back? Probably similar in age give or take a decade or two.

That old f30 (which Guitardude has now in NZ) really had a great sound and mojo up the ying yang, but it was not as comfortable to play for me, real narrow neck and the body was larger. Now I didn't get a chance to A/B these two specific guitars but as I recall the sound of the f30, the 00-18 is somewhat brighter and louder...of course part of that could be the strings since the ones on the f30 were really old..and the f30 was about 1/2 of the cost of this one.

By the way, I'm learning Catie Curtis's "Dad's Yard", putting it in an open tuning (not sure which one I'll use, I'm in DGDGBD right now) to play at church on Sunday along with a song that was my Dad's favorite which I'll do in a straight tuning so I guess I'll have to take two guitars, the 00-18 tuned open and my D55 in regular tuning, quite a visual contrast as well as audio.

Here are some pictures of my '62 00-21NY and the '53 00-18...back to playing..joan
