Today is the anniversary of Jimi Hendirx's performance at Woodstock - Monday morning, Aug. 18, 1969.

Such an iconic moment. It has captured my imagination my entire life. My uncle was there and I’ve always cherished his stories.

Today I am blessed to have a collaboration with the man whose work has been so influential for me. I have been playing with Juma Sultan for almost a year now and we have some wonderful things on the calendar in coming months.

Here is the account from the Woodstock Museum at Bethel Woods:

He seems to be in good health and spirit - at age of full 80 years - something to aim . . .

Alas, I was but 15 years old and obviously my parents wouldn't let me attend.

I had turned 13 just 3 days before. I didn't even know there was a Woodstock.

Edit: I found an article written in 2019 that gives 10 Hendrix at Woodstock facts. Number 10 was kinda surprising.

"Hendrix was not supposed to close Woodstock. Steeped in childhood memories of the song, Woodstock organizer Michael Lang wanted Roy Rogers to come on after Hendrix and play Happy Trails. The cowboy crooner declined, and Hendrix stepped in."

"Happy Trails" at the end of Woodstock? Well, that would have been ... different.

I was 2 and a half, tried to get there but was struggling to get out of my house. I kept getting stuck on these stairs and then I fell down a lot.
