I never thought I'd ever see him on stage w/ a guitar again, so was pleasantly surprised to see this this morning.

A very fitting tribute to Wray, especially having someone w/ Page's stature bringing attention to Wray's immense importance in helping shape the future, namely the attitude, of playing electric guitar. (y)

That was great! I was surprised to see him after he was on video, I thought he wasn't actually present!

Here he is playing air guitar to "Rumble" from the movie "It Might Get Loud":

Know it well. ;) And if you look on the upper shelves of his home's music room, it's loaded w/ numerous Zep bootlegs. There's one in particular right under the "watch later" icon in the youtube link screenshot called "The Can" which is a holy grail of live Zep collectors. It's a 10 LP collection limited to just 300 copies that often fetches upwards of $1500 in aftersale markets.

Link Wray hails from a small town 20 miles from me. Sadly, you rarely see any mention of his contribution to rock and roll. Small Southern towns can be funny that way.

FWIW, Rumble was written to capture the emotion of a fight Link witnessed. If you listen in that context, the genius is even clearer.

Link's biggest hit shares it's name w/ a semi recent doc about Native American's contributions to rock music.

Still wild to me to hear that this song...AN INSTRUMENTAL...was actually banned from many radio stations in the US back in 1958-59!!
