It's been around a bit but I've always enjoyed this. You'll need to let it play a bit until you get to the song.

Richard, thanks so much for posting this. I never got to hear Gordon Lightfoot in person, but always admired his songs. I think some of them inspired me to take up the 12 string.

But I did get to hear John Prine multiple times. The most memorable time was before he was known to the public. It was after lessons at the Old Town School of Folk Music here in Chicago, one night. It was customary for many of the students to gather at a bar called the Saddle Club, where someone would be playing or there'd be an open mic. Imagine the surprise when Steve Goodman got up and played! And then, he introduced his friend, John Prine, who he described as a mailman in suburban Chicago. John took the stage and sang several of the songs that would appear on his first album. A legend right there, in the making, in one of his first public appearances. Of course, I will never forget it.

Great post and thanks for sharing. I saw JP quite a few times in Milwaukee and Chicago. He always put on a great show. He was a really funny guy. Steve Goodman was one of my all-time guitar playing heroes. Prine wrote great songs and I loved his unique voice but Goodman was pretty much unsurpassed as a player. It would have been a lot of fun to hang with those two best of friends.

I hung out there too! Yeah, John Prine, Steve Goodman, Bonnie Koloc. Great memories.

Here's one mention.

Somewhere I have a photo of the closing of the place. If I can find it, it's memorable.

finally got around to watching this song. I loved that you can hear Gordon singing harmony. awesome that he remembers the chorus perfectly, he wrote so many lyrics over the decades. he nails it and totally elevates the song by his harmony. very sweet moment between the 2 old songwriters.
