Just came from the customer appreciation evening. Typical snacks and excellent beer, something I have to be careful of at my age, instead of "Cry Me a River" its well you know. Anyway came away with 3 guitar stands, 2 for my daughter (On Stage for 6 bucks!!, half price).
Tried out a couple of jumbos. One was a nice Collings small jumbo (oxymoronic isn't it) german spruce top, EIR back, didn't do much for me, very complex sounding, I guess I'm getting simple in my dotage. The other was a new Martin J35E. I was really surprised, I liked it, very punchy, projected very well and balanced tone. If I had the bread I would have picked it up, feel like a traitor.
They also had two consignment Guilds (they are not Guild dealers) , one was an X-170B hollowbody electric. Since all I know of electrics is you need a plug, I can't say anything about it. The other was a '66 F20. Missing truss rod cover and and been around the block more than once, $800, but I'm sure they would dicker a bit. Did not sound particularly impressive to me, but my idea of a small guitar is a dread, so I am not the best judge. If anyone is interested contact Mass Street Music, these are the first Guilds I have ever seen there.
