I’m currently thinking of something I said I would never do, but due to things outside of my control I may have to sell some of my most prized possessions. I own a Guild MKS10CE in really good condition with the Guild case. The guitar is in great condition, the exterior of the case looks a little rough but not too bad. I am trying to determine a fair price to ask if I am forced to sell. With only 56 documented guitars of this model made I have not seen any others sold to help with valuation and there is very little information on them. Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome, Lynn.

Sorry to hear you might need to sell this rare guitar. There are a few LTG members who are knowledgeable re: Guild classical guitars; hopefully they can give you some guidance on pricing.

FYI, after you make a total of 10 posts you could list it for sale here at LTG.

Not familiar with this model but have been keeping an eye out for a Paloma "classical".
Your model also looks like a "contender".

That's a tough one to say. Lynn D, you have a great example of that guitar. The used Guild prices are high now so you would have that going for you. The MKS10CE is a great guitar if that's what someone is looking for. I also have a 1993 CCE-100 that had a similarly small run. It actually has the same neck as the MKS10CE but a SongBird type one piece body.

As far as price I would start high because if the rarity and see what offers you get. As you can see in the post Ralf referenced. My guitar is in rough cosmetic shape and I therefore paid a very low price. But if you find someone like me that really appreciates these rare great sounding and playing classical guitars, it will sell!

I forgot to mention the only downside to these 1980's Crossroads Series guitars is the pickup and onboard preamps. This was in the early days of under saddle pickups. Your guitar either has an early Fishman or Barcus Berry system. Either way they ran off of two AA batteries and the system was always powered, no switch jack. (The power draw was very low so the batteries could last for months though) A 3V system is not, let's say, appreciated from a performance standpoint in 2022. So depending on the buyer's usage a pickup system retrofit may be required on their end. Due to the design of these guitars it is not always an easy modification.
