Ok been 20 years since I played. So I buy a squire jass with round wounds. My forefinger turned blue. Got a idea how to get it back to normal.
Maybe I need flats. I am known for cryptic posts. O well

Flats maybe, but unless the blue fingers are from something coming off of the string I'd look at my fretting hand. Maybe I'm hitting the string with the finger pad and not the fingertip? Maybe I'm pressing down on the string harder than I need to? Maybe the action is really, really high?

All the hallmarks of the new/returning bassist using a new instrument could be present and possibly culprits (ask me how I know):
1. too high tension strings
2. pressing too hard
3. stock nut slot height too high from factory.
4. playing around frets 1-3 too much without a break.
This combo has been known to bruise my first finger from time to time with flats until I corrected that stuff.

Being dehydrated or too cold will shrivel up those fingertips and make less paddding on the fingertips as fluids are drawn away from fongertips.
