Hey all,

I've been building guitars lately, thought I'd post a few pics, since everybody, including me likes build pics.

Build one, mahogany/sitka, based on a Martin kit with modifications. It sounds great, and is very easy to play.

Build two, EIR/redwood, with curly maple binding and accents. Some kit parts, some scratch built. It's in finish now, another week until I can start to wet sand.

These have been a blast to build, and I've really learned a bunch. Next up is a scratch built Claro walnut/engelmann spruce short scale.

After tht, I want to build one for Barbara, (bdeclee).

Thanks for looking,

Chris.

CWood,

Color me highly impressed. I'm a cabinet maker (one of my hats) and I can always appreciate the things people do with wood. Your finished products are superb in every way that I can see. Kudos to you!

Now, how do we go about sampling the sound?

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe,

We just bought a new condensor mic, and the plan is to make some nice clips of the new guitars. I'll be posting them as soon as we get around to making them.

As I was going through your pics, the same two thoughts Joe expressed came to my mind:

1- What an impressive craftmanship.
2- Any sound clips?

Since you already answered number 2, I will be anxiously waiting for your next posts......

Hats off!

Wow, those look great . . . I've built cabinets, but never considered building a guitar.

Forgive my ignorance, but the yellow-tipped rods appear to be providing steady pressure while the body is clamped in a jig. Why is that?

BTW, I've previously worked at a Superfund cleanup site in Your Fair City . . .

Thanks guys,

Mark, it aint all that fair! But, my bride is here, so it's worth it.

Those rods are part of a device called a go bar press, really old tech way of applying even pressure to something being clamped.

Here's a better pic of the one I made, the top is adjustable, so I can control the pressure and thickness of whatever is being clamped.

Very nice, Woody!

A friend here started building guitars a couple years ago, too. Nothing better to do during his retirement. He started by re-building one I had, and then he started building his own - entirely from scratch! That's what amazes me! He kept #1, my daughter got #2, he kept #7 ( his hand-carved archtop) he's building #10, which he also plans to keep, and all the others were friends' orders. Oh, and he finally started taking lessons this past summer, so he could play what he built.

Keep up the good work!

Beautiful, Woody :D I love the top on that rosewood guitar too, really nice grain! From the photos, the workmanship looks excellent

I like to play 'em, but I don't know if I'd have the patience to attempt building a guitar :x

Fine work Cwood. Is that a sinker redwood top? I have a piece of sinker that looks similar that I'm building into a tenor uke.
For anyone who really want to try a build but doesn't have the confidence to start with a guitar, Stewart-McDonald has inexpensive ukulele kits that you can start out with and not be too stressed over the learning process.

I don't think it's sinker redwood, at least LMI didn't say so when I ordered it. It's a nice piece of wood, though. I expect some nice sound from it.

Beautiful guitars. I haven't built any acoustics but I've been scratch building electric guitars since 1981. Your photos are a true inspiration!
