Hi there. I'm not a Guild guy, I've probably only played a couple of Guilds over the years, but I have a chance to trade into a 1957 (or perhaps '56) DE-100. I've had a hard time tracking down sales of DE-100's, so I'm hoping that folks here can help me. Right now there is a DE-100D on ebay and they are asking nearly $1700. It looks like some one used it as a tobaggon.

I haven't seen mine up close yet. I know that the binding is cracked in places and that the serial # is 3019.

What should I look for, or look out for? Can you give me a ballpark of where the price should be?

I realize that this is a "how-long-is-a-string" question, but any help would be appreciated,

Geoff

Geoff, welcome to the board!

Do you mean a CE-100? "DE" stands for Duane Eddy and they had the number designation of 400 and 500 and didn't come out until the sixties.

Does the guitar you're looking at have one or two pick-ups? If it's one pick-up it's a CE-100. If it has two, it's a CE-100D. The two pick-up model is more desirable.

According to the Guild Serial number charts the guitar is from 1956.

With out seeing the guitar it's hard to put a price on it, but what the hell, I'll throw out some numbers for ya!

Mint = $3500 - $4500

Near Mint = $2500 - $3500

Fine = $1750 - $2500

Good = $1000 - $1750

Fair = $750 - $1000

Used = $500 - $750

Beat to crap = $300 - $500

Anybody want to quote some real "Bluebook" numbers?

Hi Geoff,

Nothing to add to the expert numbers above, but I will add a warm welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome. I meant CE-100, a slip of the finger. It's a single pickup, and if I could figure out the image download, I'd post a picture. It looks pretty clean, it's a vintage sunburst top, all of the inlays appear to be there. It's a pretty nice looking box.

I've had an archtop on the list for a long time, but the Kays and Harmony's all have huge necks, and the higher end stuff has been out of my range, until now.

I appreciate the help so far.

Welcome. I was just in Gruhns Vintage Guitars in Nashville and they had what looked like a CE-100 up on the wall and it looked sweet in person. I didn't have the time to play it or the money to buy but man I'm kinda jones'n for one now

Nice job getting the photo up!

I should have know it was a CE-100 with a single pick-up. The "D" two pick-up models didn't come out until '59. By the way, according to the "Bible". '56 was the first year for the CE-100. The "trapeze" tailpiece would also indicate that. One last thing is that there's a lot of Franz pick-up fans on this board!
