Getting back to the '64 Starfire III...

I've been doing some experimenting with strings, and these are my personal conclusions so far...

.010 roundwounds... Too light for the 24 3/4" scale and super-low action, although blues dudes would probably dig it.
.011 flatwounds (Thomastik Infeld)... I love them on my X-175B Manhattan, and the .012 TI flats on my '55 Gibson ES-125 are a terrific match, but I found them uncomfortably rigid on the SFIII, which really surprised me.
.011 roundwounds... These are my choice for now, specifically D'Addario nickel plated steel. (I also have a set of pure nickel rounds that I will try eventually.)

Interestingly, I am not having any significant intonation issues using an unwound third string with the Bigbsy bridge.

Gawd, I'm so fickle... I went back to .010 roundwounds and like them now. I think I had the action set too low the first time I tried them.
