Hello fellow Guild bass owners!

I have a B4CE-NT HR and have a couple questions.

I've done a search on the handy interwebs :p to try and find what
year my bass was made.
The serial number is AB041401, the web site I found had s/n's listed through
1999 and the last s/n they've shown was AB041257.

So, my questions are, do you think my bass was made in the year 2000 or so?

And, the other question is, what do you think is causing the terrible pop coming out
of my amp speaker when I move some times?

Thank you for what ever help you may be able to give!

Here's a photo link......

Welcome to LTG luvmyguildbass. I luvmyguildbass(es) too!

My guess is that your bass is from either 2000 or 2001, as I'm pretty sure the B4 was discontinued after the Westerly RI plant closed in 2001. Maybe resident guru Hans Moust will chime in with an exact date. I used to own one like yours (a fretless), and can't remember is a date was stamped on the heel block inside the body. Is there one there?

As for the popping sound when you move, it could be something loose in the output jack. Is everything secure in the area?

Welcome.

I concur with Sandy - probably 2000 and definitely discontinued once production moved to Corona circa 2001. Hans should know for sure

As for the popping the obvious candidates are the output jack in the bass itself or the cord you are using between the bass and the amp. Easiest test, and possible solution, is to buy a new cord and see if the pop stops.

Thanks to all for your input!

I've tried different cables and it seems to be in the jack, as
the jack was securely mounted and I found nothing loose.

I've ordered a new jack so, hope to get it sounding better when
I receive the jack and install it.

As far as date of manufacture for my bass, the final word so far
is 1998.
Now I'm questioning the accuracy of the web site I got my info. from
but I got it narrowed down at least!

It's pretty well understood, at least if you hang around LTG long enough, that the Guild dating charts pubklished on the net are often incomplete or inaccurate. The most accurate, published information is in Hans Moust's The Guild Guitar Book which goes through 1977. The most accurate, unpublished information comes from Hans himself who answered your question. So if the choice is between believing Hans or the web, go with Hans
