The M30 I purchased from Richard came in and I am really pleased. Dealing with Richard was a pleasure and it was packed really well! I didn’t really need to, because it came in really good condition, but I went through my usual check list when I get a new guitar: strings off, polish frets, oil fretboard, oil rosewood bridge, clean it up, light polish, and then new strings. I am trying DR Sunbeams. From a setup perspective I only had to tweak the truss rod due to potentially different string gauge and the guitar acclimating to a new environment.
I really like the feel of this guitar. It has that perfect “worn in” feel without feeling abused. Only many, many years of playing can create a finish like this. I love the feel of vintage guitars.
It also sounds lovely. Smooth and soft but with longer sustain than I was expecting. Even my wife commented on how smooth it sounded and (in her words) “not twangy“. Richard posted some great detailed photos in his For Sale posting but here are a few more. The last photo is of the volute. I did not expect a volute on a 1959 Guild. Much more subtle than the ones introduced in the back half of the 1960’s.
