Recently purchased this guitar off the GC site. It was listed a "fair condition" and no case and the price was low but in the photos the guitar looked pretty good so I decided to order it and check it out. I got very lucky. While it does have some cosmetic wear this is is a beautiful looking and playing guitar and it came with new frets, an excellent setup, fresh strings - ready to go. To my ear it has a much prettier sound than the '77 212XL I used to own which was a canon but didn't have what I would call a pretty sound. Hans thinks the guitar is a '69. (for some reason Guild did not keep records of the 212XL in the '60s so they are a little harder to date than other models) Anyway, loving it! (a case has been ordered)

I have lusted for an F212XL for 15 years now. Congratulations !
Thank you! As you can probably tell I would highly recommend this model year of the F212XL. Pretty sure the neighboring model years '68 and '70 would be great as well. I hope you can find one. While the '77 model I owned was decent and loud it was not in the same league as the 1969.

I've owned a couple of F212XLs, and both were brilliant guitars. Mine were both mid to late '70s examples, and I imagine that the earlier builds were even better. How's the neck agle?

The neck angle and the action are good. The saddle is a little low but there is still a decent string break. Crossing my fingers everything stays stable because the guitar is playing really well at the moment.

Nice! Congratulations. I'm apprehensive about buying an older twelve-string online. I would feel better if I could see it before making the purchase. Glad that yours worked out.

I love when that happens! Wow, that is a great looking jumbo! With an ebony fretboard? Sheesh! Super major congrats!

Thanks! Absolutely agree, it really is a crapshoot. When I ordered this guitar I was 95% sure it would have some major issue but I took a chance and got lucky. There have been quite a few guitars I have ordered on the GC site in the past and returned. I still think it's worth keeping an eye on the GC site because some nice guitars do appear on there and if you do get a stinker you can return it.

That's pretty much the same deal with my Oxnard-built F512. It was listed on reverb as... jeez, I forget, something like "for parts or not working." The pics just showed a couple of nasty gouges at the edge of the top. Well, I had those fixed, now they're barely noticeable, and otherwise it was like a brand new F512! Less than half price! Took a chance and got lucky! Fantastic guitar!

Yep, just goes to show you never know. And with their generous return policy it’s worth it if you have the flexible funds and patience. Nice find, HNGD!
