I went on vacation with the family last week and there just happened to be a 1969 M-65 full size a short drive away. I have been keeping my eyes out for one with Mickey Mouse pickups as I have a 1954 M-75 with Franz pickups and a 1967 M-75 with the anti hums. I was also wanting an all mahogany version compared to my spruce top M-75’s.

The guitar has some pick areas on the front in the finish but appears to be all original with no binding issues or buckle rash. Definitely not a museum piece but not beat up. I like the look with some honest play wear. Since it was a local face to face sale we were able to come to what I think was a fair price without extra fees and such. The guitar needed a really good clean and polish and the frets were the dirtiest I have ever seen. I took it apart, cleaned and polished everything and put on new strings a few hours ago. Much better.

It sounds great unplugged. Very woody. Unplugged I think it may sound better than my M-75’s. I am not sure if the difference is the all mahogany, only having one pickup routed in the top, or just my imagination since it is new to me. Probably my imagination. Plugged in I am liking the Mickey Mouse pickups. At first I was not impressed but then I adjusted the pickup height and it is nice and sweet. This is my first Mickey Mouse guitar so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Hey there. For some reason I can’t view the attachments (is it possible to insert them directly in the thread?), but HNGD nonetheless!

Very nice, but should be in the Archtops/Hollowbodies section!

I am laughing because that is where I originally started to post it, then second thought that decision, noticed that M65 and Aristocrats were listed as models in the Solid/chambered section and decided to move it. I was too lazy to retype everything so I just copied and pasted it and that is how I messed up the photos. I should have just left it alone! Thanks

slight, but related, veer - I am happy this M-65 has a chesterfield. It just looks “right” to me. However, I have seen varied specs on M-65’s as I have been looking to buy one. Some have chesterfields, some have the peak Guild print (or script on earlier years), some have neck binding (mainly early years), some have a three piece necks like the Aristocrat, etc.. Any rhyme or reason to these specs by year or is this just another example of Guild being random on specs?

It did, and it looks awesome. If you feel so inclined, it would be cool to see it lined up with the other 2 Guilds you mentioned in the post. Very cool that they all have different pickups.

I don’t have the 1954 Aristocrat with me right now but here is a photo with the 1967 M-75 and 1969 M-65. I thought my M-75 was really light until I picked them both up together for the photo. I just weighed the M-65 and it is just under 4.4 pounds. I guess the fancy hinged harp tailpiece, extra pickup, toggle switch, pots, knobs and Grovers add up!

no feet!

I have a red '62 M65 with no Chesterfield. I'm not sure I ever thought about it before, but it looks nice on yours.

The M65's are one of my favorites!
That Starfire red one is a beauty!
(My only complaint is the tuners.)
