So, I was not on the hunt for one of these but this one caught my interest. It's a Westerly built 1081 D 55 I found on Reverb. It was sold by Cream City Music near Milwaukee.

It and its OHSC are in excellent condition. I won't say it's a case queen but you'd be hard pressed I think to find another in this shape. I always preferred the D 50 to the D 55 and maybe still do but this is a really fine sounding and playing guitar. Plus, I had never owned an older Westerly D 55 and wanted to experience that.

It checked all the boxes for me. Neck angle is excellent with plenty of saddle height available. It may have had a bridge reglue at some point but it was well done. It has a darker burst than often seen on a Westerly guitar but that doesn't bother me. I'm more in it for the sound and it has that in spades.

Here's a few crappy pics.

Nice looking D55 Richard. Looking forward to hearing more about how it sounds compares.

Absolutely beautiful Richard and I am partial to the early 80s black pick guard which is on my 1980G312SB. Great find and congratulations! ;)

Like Sandy - I, too, like the dark SB. Had to be a little extra time taken to select the wood for that D55.

I like all of the Guild bursts I've ever seen. A D 55 strikes me as pretty near perfect in every way. It is the only Guild model where all were very good, even Corona ea. Even the heavier Westerly builds where I do not favor the era for say a D 40, the D 55 shines, and all the 12 strings also.

I can't say that for Martin and Gibson product.

That sure is pretty version of it, congrats on the flagship acquisition! The back has that appearance I once saw on a D50, I wonder what causes it to look like the rosewood grain got smeared like a piece of paper that got pulled through the copier too quick?
