The guitar arrived this afternoon. Aside from a B.B. sized blemish on the binding, it looks perfect. I realize most people here have seen an orange x-170, but this one is mine, so its special. Its set up well and plays beautifully. We will be getting to know one another today. Now, what is this I hear about a compensated bridge if I want to use strings with an unwound g?

The flame top looks so nice coming through there. What a beauty. Enjoy it!

In general, these arch top compensated bridges are designed around the heavier gauge strings, including a wound G string. The intonation will be a bit off with an unwound G. D'Addario makes sets with wound Gs down to 10s, IIRC. (Found 'em: ad' addario-exl110w-nickel-regular-light-wound-3rd-electric-guitar-strings)

Oh, nice X-170! I remember the Orange ones to have Guildsbys usually, nice to see a hard tail one.

I think that might be the first Tennessee Orange X170 I've seen with a hard tail too. Just a gorgeous color, and those very late Westerly Guilds might be the best of their ilk. Looks perfect in the pictures, too. Enjoy the new baby!

Very nice!

I once had an orange X-170T that was a very nice guitar. I sold it to help fund some new Guild electrics, and while my new Guilds are as good as it gets I wish I had that X-170T back.

Enjoy!

Beautiful guitar, congrats! The Newark St. X-175 and the A-150 are delivered with two wooden bridges as Mike Lewis had told me back at NAMM 2013, one uncompensated for wound G string, a second one compensated for plain G string. (not sure if that is the right description for compensated or uncompensated, somehow both are compensated...)
So I guess there is a chance to get a new one from Guild.

Any luthier or parts store will have both compensated and uncompensated bridges that you can buy. Without the base it shouldn'tc ost mor than $10.

Very Nice Finn! Looks almost unplayed! As far as the Bridge for an unwound G, like Guildman63 said, Any Luthier shop should have them or know where to get them and they should fit down over the top of you existing base. Great Looking Guitar, If you are looking for a bigsby for it then hit me up, I think I have a NOS Gold Guildsby here at the house on my Stash of parts. Personally I like the hardtail on your particular guitar. Congrats on a Great Guild!
