This arrived yesterday. So this is the one I was originally wanting to buy. I think he had it priced $1400/1450 and I was going to offer $1200 figuring he would counter with $1300.
Then the price jumped up. Then it seemed to disappear but I couldn't see that it had sold so I figured he'd decided not to sell. Periodically it would reappear
at the higher price only to vanish again. This weekend I saw he'd dropped the price to $1300 and seeing gas in California was approaching $7.00 a gallon
I reasoned as long as I'm not driving as much, another guitar I don't need was the perfect hedge against inflation.
It's gorgeous, sounds fantastic and once again am convinced that 60s electrics are my favorites. I love the earlier asymmetrical headstock that my '63 Polara shares with the other earlier Guild solid bodies but this headstock with the maple overlay is a winner. Love those skinny frets too. And the volute!
The seller said he wasn't aware his listing would vanish from time to time--as far as he knew it had been up for 2 years the whole time.
I had to wait until dinner was over to open the box so I couldn't take my own crappy pics until daylight today.

This is SA 522--my other one that had been played extensively by Freddy Kruger is SA 538. On a search I saw another '67 with the serial # SA 545 that had a Mickey Mouse PU so I'm guessing the '67s with the earlier PUs are more common. Hans?
This has pretty twangy strings and I think I will put flat wounds on this to get back my Polara vibe from 57 years ago.

I was weened on that model/ version S50 except mine had the asymmetrical headstock with the plain black overlay. I found that middle pickup to be in the sweet spot with that chrome pickup.

What surprised me is the use of that pickup on a later year guitar. A 1968 S50 with chrome soapbar pup and Hagstrom tremer is onusual for that time.

Cool guitar!

Wonderful guitar! Too often ignored, IMHO. I love mine.

Yep! A wee bit nicer than my Nightmare on Elm Street one:

However had I not gotten this one who knows if the mahogany one would have been still available. And as thrashed as this one looks it plays like a dream--and the sunburst matches my '63 Polara. I need to have my friend photoshop Freddy Kruger holding this!

So I found SA 540 that sold 5 years ago had a Mickey Mouse PU--so SA 539: Mickey Mouse or or with the earlier PU? Is my icepick
special the last '67 with the chrome soap bar?
So far all the '67 model S-50s I've seen seem to have the Tremar.

Let the search for SA 539 begin! That's pretty neat that you might have the last of the "Frequency Tested Pickup" Jet-Stars!

Interesting feedback from the seller:
"Good Reverber! Nice to sell without having to answer a lot of stupid questions when the answer is in the listing."
I save my stupid questions for LTG!
