I've come to love the D 40 model. I had 3 of them; an Oxnard D 40 T Deluxe, an Oxnard D 40T and a New Hartford D 40 CE Std. I've now added the D 140 Cherry Burst, a Chinese import. Don't get me wrong, I love my made in the USA Guilds and always will but some of these import models are pretty good. I have a D 1212E, a D 120 and an F 250 CE all of which are very much worth the money.

Then I saw an ad for the new D 140 Cherry Burst and figured why not. Folks, this is a great sounding guitar and at $799 new is about 1/3 the cost of a new USA D 40. It might be 1/3 the cost but it is not 1/3 the sound/tone. It's really very good, I like it a lot. I won't try to convince anyone it sounds as good as my USA D 40's, I just don't ever get into that argument. I will say it may be the best $799 I've spent in a long time. You may or may not like the CB finish but I I do like it, quite a bit actually.

Also, I'll put in a plus for Calido guitars in Texas. It's a very cool brick and mortar store and Daniel goes out of his way to make the transaction seamless and pleasurable. Free shipping and no sales tax is an added bonus for sure. If you're in the market for a new Guild, check him out. I'm sure you'd be very satisfied. I much prefer dealing with him than Elderly, Gruhn, Carter, Willcutt and many others. He's good people.

I typically hate listening to a Utube of others playing. It just always reminds me how truly poor a player I really am. But, I keep reminding myself I'm really a singer who knows just enough guitar to get by. I'm attaching a utube of a guy playing this model. I wouldn't even be worthy of tying his boots but it gives you a nice preview of the D 140 sound.

My pics won't load for some reason but you can see the guitar pretty well in the utube.

Very nice, congrats! The Westerly Collection certainly has high bang for the buck factor. My D-1212 is a great sounding guitar.

Wow that sounds nice! It reflects exactly how I would expect mahogany should sound, nice and warm in the middle, clear trebles. Yeah I hated every second of watching that video. Makes me want to sell my guitars. However, I have the same back story as you. I played the frontman for traveling bands 70’s and 80’s only singing. I traded that in the 90s for a wonderful wife and two beautiful children. So I had to teach myself the acoustic guitar to continue singing. I know just enough to be dangerous. Seven open chords and a capo, and how to make major and minor barred chords. I’m back out singing/playing but solo, and can’t think of one time someone came up to me and said “hey, you didn’t play that exactly right”. I’ve been seeing the burst 140s out there online. Does yours look like this?

I like that sunburst. It leans toward Gibson, but that's okay. :)

One of the things I like about you Richard - great example of the quote, "To Thine Ownself Be True."

HNGD! But hey, I thought you were downsizing? Lol

Great to hear someone here picked one up and commented, on paper it sounds like a hell of a guitar, with that cherry burst it’s gorgeous, and then in that video it meets expectations. Congratulations!
