Some of you may be getting a bit tired of my recent NGD posts but this will likely be the last one for a while. I've got my eyes on a few but at least for now they are priced higher than what I am willing to pay.

This one is a 1985 F 42 NT. I bought it some time ago but had it sent to Tom Jacobs for a wellness check. He said the guitar was in fine condition but he did remove and reglue the bridge plus set it up to my liking.

I think this may well become of of my most favorite Guilds, The sound, tone and playability are all superb and I really like the looks of this one as well. It has a Spruce (Sitka I believe) top Mahogany B&S and RW fingerboard and bridge. It is better than described cosmetically and the sound/playability is far beyond my expectations.

Just as a sidenote I find it interesting how our (at least my) preferences change over time. Early on it was RW all the way for me and I wouldn't even consider anything else. Then, over time I grew to love a nice Maple guitar the best (depending upon the model). Now I find myself lusting after Mahogany although Maple is still my fave. So for me, at least for now, it's Maple followed closely by Mahogany with RW being a distant 3rd. The exotic woods are a different animal so I don't try to compare them with the above.

Here's a few pics/

Congrats Richard. You don’t see these come up for sale too often. Just about the perfect size and shape. That old mahogany must sound great!

Congratulations, Richard. I'll never tire of your NGD posts. The 1980s were a weird and wonderful time for Guild, with so many models dropping into and out of the lineup. I'm not sure I've ever seen a picture of an F42 until now.

Congrats Richard. That looks like a very nice F42. With a label/sticker signed by George Gruhn? Nice little detail. I wonder if this is an actual signature or a reproduction. Looks like he actually signed it. I wonder if anyone has seen that before?

It's maple and mahogany for me too. I spent years wanting and thus wanting to love rosewood. My list might be maple, mahogany, cherry, then rosewood. I love a great rosewood guitar, but just not for my thing.

And if I can only pick one size guitar, it's a Gruhn/Walker Guild mini-jumbo.

Congrats Richard! This is a Gruhn model I haven't seen before. I expanded the pics and I don't really see any scratches or dings in the back or sides. Closet Queen you think? It's really beautiful and I'm shying way from rosewood too, but not too much. How big is the lower bout and how deep at the lower seam on a F-42?
I recently acquired a 2007 F-47MC and I pick it up more than my F-30R. Maple is becoming attractive to me too.

I love my mahogany guitars also. My G37 is my second favorite. Great looking guitar. Enjoy.

Great guitar, and I'll add my voice to the others who won't get tied of posts about guitars, especially with photos.🙂
